DUSHANBE, 23.09.2024 (NIAT Khovar) – On September 23, the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, met in New York with the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization, Mrs. Celeste Saulo.
At the meeting, issues of Tajikistan’s cooperation with this international organization and the global climate agenda of the United Nations were discussed.
President Emomali Rahmon started by mentioning the global initiatives of Tajikistan within the «Dushanbe Water Process» and stated that «in this context, we attach special importance to cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization, which has been going on for several decades.»
The plan to hold a high-level international conference on glaciers’ preservation in 2025 was cited as an example of this cooperation.
Much attention was paid to issues related to climate change, floods, landslides, the adverse effects of natural disasters on the economy of countries, other catastrophic consequences and their prevention.
Further strengthening of the technical capacity of the Meteorological Agency of Tajikistan, raising the professional level of its employees and training young specialists, especially in the field of meteorology, climatology and hydrology, was considered an important and beneficial area of cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization.
There was also a fruitful discussion on other issues of mutual interest.
